| A division functions on the basis of age as of December 31 immediately preceding the start of the regular season in January. Pre-Competitive league INSTRUCTIONAL, age 8: Skills instruction and non-competitive scrimmages. more skilled and well-rounded young player for future CGBL competition. more skilled and well-rounded young player for future CGBL competition. more skilled and well-rounded young player for future CGBL competition. Competitive leagues MINOR, ages 9-10: First competitive level. Basic high school rules except: a) 6-minute quarters b) no 3-point shots c) 12-foot free throws d) backcourt pressing allowed only on continuous play (not on throw-ins after dead balls or made baskets); all types of pressing (even on throw-ins) IS allowed during the final minute of the game or any overtime period. Also, CGBL must-sit, must-play, and six-player-minimum rules apply. CGBL "foot-in-the-paint" (with 20-point lead in second half) rule applies during regular season but not during post-season tournament. All minor teams play at same regular-season level. Post-season tournaments are divided into A and B divisions based on regular-season records. INTERMEDIATE, ages 11-12: Basic high school rules except: a) 6-minute quarters and b) no 3-point shots. Also, CGBL must-sit, must-play, and six-player-minimum rules apply. Intermediate teams are divided into A and B divisions: Average-skilled and better players are placed in the (A) Division, and low-average-skilled and novice players placed in the (B) Division. League rules do require a small number of A teams but association directors are expected to fairly place teams so that "true" B teams will not be disadvantaged. The league occasionally reassigns teams during the season or before the tournament for competitive balance. CGBL "foot-in-the-paint" (with 20-point lead in second half) rule applies to the B division during regular season but not during post-season tournament. JUNIOR, ages 13-14: Basic high school rules except: a) 7-minute quarters. Also, CGBL must-sit, must-play, and six-player-minimum rules apply. Junior teams are divided into A and B divisions.
